从60年代开始的各种前卫艺术在70年代发展到顶峰，Punk movement 朋客运动主宰了一切。激烈的社会运动和变革影响到包袋潮流：

时尚向两极发展，一方面，高级手包界出现了英国的LuLu Guinness和美国的Judith Leiber品牌（至今也是好莱坞女星走红毯的首选），而年轻人的一边，流行的是“look at me”handbags：

1970年美国Vogue 杂志：'It's all in the bag ... combinations of fur and reversed calf; leather and webbing; a patchwork of lizard in scarlet, orange, Irish green, taupe; camera cases; cartridge cases; mail pouches. Bags strapped right under the arm; long-strap bags slapping the thigh; Moroccan studding and embroidery; harness brass on fake python, sleek as Rotten Row'. -摘自V&A博物馆

亚洲风、民族风盛行； 男女通用的包包如cartridg包、相机包、出现； 手工制作越来越流行，handmade，人们甚至开始自己制作手袋。
